Great Landscaping Ideas for your Backyard

Looking for great landscaping ideas to spruce up your outdoor living spaces? We've got you covered.

Why not greet your friends with flowers?

Flowers make your home and yard more inviting. Decorate your entrance with beautiful flowering plants. Perennials and assorted annuals like Snapdragon and Petunia and great additions to any garden.

If you don't have a lot of space between your home and the street, you should consider installing a low fence in the front. This fence can be a great place for growing creeping plants. And thanks to its low height, it will give the impression that your home is farther away from the street.

Plant vines

Choose a vine like clematis. It offers blooms of purple, red, pink, blue or white. You can grow it on the trellis, in a pot or on a fence. They are quite showy and will instantly add color to your landscape. Clematis should be planted during fall and spring.

Spruce up your driveway

Careful landscaping will hide your not-so-attractive driveway. Create a raised lawn in the middle of the drive and then add a low fence toward the back of it with roses, perennials and annuals. Choose plants of a variety of textures and colors. They will make your driveway attractive.

Go for no-fuss items

Crinums like hot and humid summer. They are low-maintenance and produce fragrant lily-like flowers in several colors. Over time, they will grow into beautiful huge bulbs. Don't let deer gobble up your flowers. Choose perennial varieties like globe thistle and butterfly weed. Deer detest them but you will find them glorious.

Add dimension with baskets and planters

Add sophistication to the yard with hanging baskets and raised planters. Raised planters provide aeration and good drainage and for this reason plants absolutely love them.

When you plant saplings in baskets, try to include three varieties. One of them should hang down the edges of the basket. The others should fill the basket.

Hide Outdoor Structures

Many areas in your yard are not exactly attractive to look at. For example, you probably don't want your sheds and garages to be the most prominent features in your yard. You can hide them with careful landscaping. Grow beautiful plants and flowers around these structures. Create a wooden shelf on the outer wall of these buildings above the windows. Place lightweight planters with flowers atop the shelf.

You can create a heaven in your backyard with meandering streams and intersecting trails. You should also consider designing small hideaways where family and friends can gather and enjoy a cool drink.
