Outdoor Kitchen Ideas

So, you are keen on cooking outside but don't know how to design your outdoor kitchen. Well, we have got quite a few tips to get you started.

Choose resilient materials

While designing your outdoor kitchen choose materials that can withstand the weather conditions in your area. Durable materials like stainless steel, stone, slate and tile are ideal for an outdoor kitchen. If you are planning to install the kitchen on your existing deck, make sure that the deck is structurally capable of withstanding the additional weight of the kitchen.

An outdoor kitchen requires just as much planning as an indoor kitchen. Besides picking the right countertop and grill, you have to plan for storage as well.

Protect your investments

What sort of cooking surfaces do you intend to use in your outdoor kitchen? While designing your kitchen, you need to keep these elements in mind. If you intend to use a smoking grill, you should also find a neat place where you can tuck it and shield it from rain and snow.

Lighting and ventilation

Plan for different levels of light. If you plan to use the kitchen into the night, you should install overhead lights. A ceiling fan increases the comfort levels in semi-enclosed outdoor kitchens.

Opt for-easy-to clean flooring

For your outdoor kitchen area, select an easy-to-clean floor made of resilient tile or pavers that do not absorb grease and dirt.

Include outlets

Since you will need electricity to power lights, fans and other appliances, don't forget to place an outlet close to the cooking area.

Furnish overhead shelter

Since rain and wind can seriously hamper your use of the outdoor kitchen you should consider covering it overhead. You can install a full roof. Or you can opt for a partial roof, an outdoor umbrella or a pergola. The choice is yours.

Provide storage

You will not enjoy cooking in your outdoor kitchen if you don't have spots to store everyday necessities. Before creating storage space think about all things you would like to have on hand. If the outdoor kitchen is not close enough to the indoor kitchen, you should include cabinets to store utensils, grilling tools, plates etc. If you are planning to install a fire pit, you should also include a place where you can keep your stock of wood dry.

Include a vent hood

If the outdoor kitchen is located on a covered deck or patio, you should consider installing a vent hood to absorb the smoke.

Include a water source

Don't forget to include a sink near the grill so you can easily and quickly wash your dishes, plates and cutlery, rather than carrying dirty dishes into your kitchen.
