Water Features Create a Harmonious Environment that’s Naturally Appealing and Relaxing to the Soul

Water Features

Ever wondered why architects and professional landscape contractors are staunch advocates for adding water features to your back yard? That’s because adding water to an outdoor space brings a lot of benefits. Water Features can also provide a major transformation for an outdoor area whether in residential or commercial properties. For example, outdoor ponds and fountains add beauty to any landscape as well as creating an interesting focal point to an outdoor space. Adding waterfalls can also create a harmonious environment that’s naturally appealing and relaxing to the soul. There are more outdoor water features that you can add to your property, depending on the theme and style that you want to achieve.

Outdoor Fountains

Most outdoor water features are large-scale projects, like in the case of pools, spas, ponds, and waterfalls. However, there are also affordable water features that can be installed even in a DIY manner, like outdoor fountains. They are available in various sizes and designs. You can choose from classic, modern, and theme-inspired fountains. The most common design is the tiered fountain. But if you want a more interesting water feature, choose fountains with elaborate designs, like those with statues or the Japanese-inspired fountain using bamboos and pebbles. Outdoor fountains can also attract birds and butterflies, which all add life and beauty to a garden or a landscape.

Outdoor Waterfalls

Outdoor waterfalls create breaking water, which produces negative ions. These are negatively charged molecules that increase serotonin and oxygen levels in your brain. Thus they give you that feeling of happiness and relaxation. Falling water also neutralizes pollen, dust, and mold particles, making your air healthier, especially for people with asthma and allergy. But outdoor waterfalls are complex projects that require expertise and creativity. If you want these to be beautifully built, always consult a professional. Large waterfalls may require special tools and equipment. Another consideration is the type of materials to be used, like boulders and stones. Once you have these in your landscape, they will certainly make the area the center of attention.

Outdoor Ponds

Unlike waterfall, outdoor ponds are symbols of serenity and peace. They balance the noisiness in a crowded city and let you immerse into the tranquility of nature. Ponds can either be reflective or not. When reflective, the pond has to be dark so it can reflect the surroundings. This is great for small areas as it creates an illusion of wider space. On the other hand, non-reflective outdoor ponds are best for taming fishes. They can be entertaining and relaxing, especially if koi fishes and flowering pond plants are added.
