Ferguson Alfresco Lifestyle’s outdoor kitchen at Averna Homes’ Villa Nero display home.
Habitat profiles six stylish alfresco kitchens, from a Shaker-style space to a monochrome masterpiece.
BLACK IS BACK
Ferguson Alfresco Lifestyle worked with Averna Homes to create this outdoor kitchen for the builder’s Villa Nero display home in Carine, a home where black design features take centre stage.
“It incorporates one of our Ferguson barbecues and also includes a hotplate, char grill and wok burner,” Byron Hoy said.
The high-gloss black acrylic cabinetry is striking and a great pairing with the kitchen’s stainless- steel highlights, black sink and mixer tap. It features a Caesarstone Sleek Concrete benchtop to give a modern industrial look.

Forward thinking
The clever orientation of this outdoor kitchen is one of its best features in our book.
“The bench is set in so you can stand and cook and still be able to see your friends, rather than have your back to them while you barbecue,” Cambuild’s Cam Wilkie said. “It also gives a really streamlined look because you’re seeing the clean side of the island. Positioning it that way means it’s like an extension of the island inside, too.”
The matte white cabinetry, Caesarstone benchtops and travertine flooring contrast beautifully with the exposed red-brick wall and planted olive trees that line the space.
“To render the wall would have risked the space becoming too stark and glary,” Mr Wilkie said.

Stone age
The owner of this Ardross kitchen wanted it to complement the existing red-brick wall and to fit on to the deck without interrupting the indoor-outdoor flow.
Built by Infresco, the brief also called for materials that would hold their own against the weather and were Australian made.
The barbecue, which includes a hotplate and wok burner, was handcrafted by the company, while the kitchen also houses a gas- powered pizza oven, fridge and sink.
“The granite bench has a natural colour grain that embodies the rustic brick wall behind it,” Infresco’s Amanda Mitchellsaid.
“In sleek contrast to the other materials used, the glass-fronted cabinetry keeps it modern.”

Sophisticated style
This monochrome outdoor kitchen is the work of builder Humphrey Homes, which also won an award at the HIA-Polytec Perth Housing Awards for the plantation-style Cottesloe home this space is part of.
On the home’s upper level and part of a wraparound veranda, the kitchen features crisp white Shaker-style cabinetry, stainless- steel benchtops and rich, black stone details. The island benchtop has a built-in slot that’s big enough to chill a few bottles of wine with ice provided by the kitchen’s below- bench ice machine.
Cleverly, an Aneeta window provides direct access to the home’s scullery and commercial dishwasher.
“It’s so easy — everything just gets pushed through the window and into the dishwasher,” homeowner Tanya McMurtrie said.
