Patio doors—opening the way to enjoying your outdoor living

Most of us love relaxing in the backyard during the warmer months when opportunities for barbecues and summer activities abound. But many homeowners let underperforming, unattractive patio doors rob them of the beauty and convenience they might otherwise enjoy if they only had a better transition between their indoor and outdoor living space.

Fortunately, gone are the days when patio doors options were narrow and limiting. Today's homeowners can choose from a very wide variety of options in patio door designs, glass and hardware, which all combine to create customized styles and greatly improved functionality, security and energy efficiency.

Easy, smooth operation—If you've ever been deterred from your backyard due to an unwieldy patio door that's a burden to open, you need a higher quality patio door —one that operates on heavy duty steel roller assemblies which glide on raised stainless steel monorail tracks. Hardy, but smooth and easy to use, these gliders allow you to open your door easily with one hand—a real convenience if your other hand is full with a drink or tray.

Hardware options—From built in mini blinds and colored grills to an array of decorative handles, today's patio doors are built for multi-functioning convenience and complimentary styling.

Security options—For added security, patio doors can now be fitted with keyed exterior locking handles that exceed forced-entry requirements. This is a great option for creating separate entrances in basements or in-law suites.

Garden or Terrace Doors—In high traffic areas, garden or terrace doors make a great alternative to traditional sliding doors. Side swinging terrace doors operate just like ordinary entry doors, but with the added beauty of glass.

Sizes and configurations—Although the standard two panel, five foot configuration is always available, you might also consider three or four panels extending anywhere from five to twelve feet across. Added panels can bring beauty to your home's exterior and a greater abundance of light to your interior.
